These are pictures related to me trying to make a reef tank out of an old 10 gallon tank I have had sitting in my office at home for quite a while. Here is what I started with, that was reuseable: And here is what I had to buy: And here are some pictures of the tank in its then current state: First step is to disasemble the current tank, and clean everything up real nice. After that is done, we can install the new equipment, which is a pair of Micro-jet 450 submersible pumps for water circulation, and a 96W compact flourescent lighting hood to make the corals grow nice and big and colorful. The hood stands up on little legs, which gives a more even light spread on the tank, and also makes it easier to look into the tank, and take water samples. As this is a salt water tank, we need to make a nice salt water mixture, and make sure all the levels of important things are stable before we start dumping in the live rock and live sand. This was done using some water conditioner to remove the chlorine in the water, and then "Instant Ocean" to make the salt water. Instant Ocean is supposed to do everything for the water preperation, including pH and trace elements. With all that done and stable, we can dump in the live sand, and arrange the live rock for maximum prettiness. Then, we wait some more while the water stablilizes with all those living(hopefully, if not, just wasted quite a bit of money on "Live" sand and rock that is really "Dead" sand and rock) things in the rock generating a nice ammonium/nitrogen cycle.
Some notes:
Coming soon: Adding corals and other pretty things to the tank. |
